I would love to know the number of people who identify as Republican today, versus during the fall of 2016. I personally know several former Republicans who now consider themselves Independent or Democrat. Interested in learning if that pattern is wider than my small circle.

Don’t assume “independents” are moderate. Some, perhaps many, are too extreme to identify with either party.

"still believe they share values with their political rivals" - Perhaps "values" is defined too narrowly. Hopefully the vast majority of Americans believe racism, misogyny, dishonesty are all wrong.

There is always this assumption that we have a two party system. This is what is undermining our democracy. Independents have no real choice.

The powers that be always look to divide the people making things black vs white, repub v dem, etc. People need to unite together and stop allowing them to group us, thus divide us, we are all a lot more similar then we are led to believe

Why is it that on nearly every poll I’ve seen lately, on just about any subject, that the views of Republicans are the outlier to everyone else? Even here, Republicans seem to think a lot less of their fellow Americans than Democrats seem to.
