This is very important. They are manufacturing something, not discovering something that already exists.
I’d say that this is not an actual effort to “dig up dirt,” but an effort to push the conspiracy theory that there may be dirt in the first place. Evan, again, this is exactly right. It's an effort to keep a narrative out there - the truth or potential truth means absolutely nothing to these criminals. I truly believe that they KNOW nothing's there, but just keep stirring, to sow doubt, interest, and clicks.
