That's 43% of *what's left* of the R party, which isn't saying much. The difference is many of the sane ppl have left the party.
I believe many have left the GOP, but others have replaced them. According to Gallup, 29% of eligible voters considered themselves Republicans when Trump was elected. Now that number is 30%. Chasing some voters out and inviting others in is how the reshaping of the party happens.
GOP & media love to talk about “socialist/extreme left”, as if they have much hold over the Dem Party ... yet the real takeover was the Freedom Caucus wing w/the GOP. They’ve created an environment of fear, hate, division. Trump is the result, & their methods are only worsening.

These ideologically driven clubs have little to no interest in compromise. They represent themselves rather than their constituents, with each player trying to one-up the other in their extremist thinking.
Mick Mulvaney counted himself among them.
The new people may have registered R, but they are not conservatives. They are the party of Trump and will not hold opinions anything like the GOP of years ago.
Contrarians, not Conservatives
Republicans lost the coolest part of their electorate.
They traded out the principled constitutionalists for white nationalists—not cool. We need a need a new party for all the cool people.
What annoys me is that Bloomberg could found and fund it instead of running as a Democrat. 
Ugh. I'm going to hold on to the 70% of the country that don't consider themselves Republicans.
So 40 something percent of the GOP today doesn’t believe in American democracy. That’s what that says.
Would they offer the same elbow room for any future president of any conceivable political party?
