TV isn’t perfect and there are 1st Amendment considerations, but at least in TV there’s a fact-checking process in which you’re required to provide basic evidence of your ad’s claims. Recklessly, @Facebook refuses to institute even such basic safeguards against disinformation.https://twitter.com/mbsmithcpa/status/1201175862219067393 …

Cmon Evan. Aren’t you trying to hold FB to a higher standard than the tv networks? They have been allowing lies and misleading statements for decades. I don’t hear you or others calling for networks to question nonanswers in debates.

Most interpretations of @FCC rules say they have to run candidate ads & may not censor or alter them. https://www.commlawblog.com/2018/02/articles/deadlines/political-broadcasting-rules-qa/ … And as far as I know, TV stations do not require evidence of the claims made in those ads, only a disclosure of who made them.pic.twitter.com/7u7ANF4OWD

We actually run ads on television and have been through fact-checking processes multiple times.

Right: issue ads run by a third party group, not a candidate's electioneering. As noted in the resourc cited, stations have to consider potential liability of taking $ to accept third party ads. Which goes to fact-checking. And on that count, clearly station standards exceed FB.

Some of our ads are electioneering ads and they have been responsibly fact-checked by television networks.
