If we believe that God chooses our political leaders, then we believe that we are not inherently free, and if we are not inherently free, then we accept the rule of tyrants, foreign powers, and corrupt interests.

Believing that some deity controls everything takes away human responsibility which is the key to progress toward a more civilized world.

It would otherwise completely ignore the story in the Garden of Eden. It wouldn't be "the woman made me do it" but "God made me do it" and the whole redemption, salvation, the Cross all would not have been necessary

Also... one should remember that this whole "God chooses the leader" is the same crap used to justify having kings. It goes back millennia all the way to Ancient Egypt but even the English used that justification once upon a time.

IMO “Free Agency” is an under-rated, under-valued, and misunderstood concept in Christianity in general, and with Evangelicals, in particular. A lot of people assume life is playing out “as ordained” as opposed to life being an accumulation of choices from which we are to learn.
