House Republicans spent the entire week pushing the conspiracy theory that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election. A generous assessment would be that they were simply manipulated by their extreme partisan tribalism and duped by the disinformation. A more realistic assessment is that they’ve chosen to adopt disinformation as a political tactic and were eager purveyors of the Kremlin’s lies.
Or they’ve been extorted with Kompromat using info Russia hacked years ago.
Sadly this includes @HurdOnTheHill, a former CIA officer who knows better. A new Aldrich Ames, I guess.
To use Fox News rhetoric: “Fox News, the GOP, and Trump hate America, Americans, and all that American democracy has stood for since WW I. They love Russia, North Korea, and despots in general.” They never let the truth come between them and a conspiracy that harms the US.
Pretty sad either way. They can never be trusted again. Even if the Senate would vote to convict, which I doubt, it would be seen as trying to save their own hide, not for the good of the Country.

I imagine the typical tool bouncing between the perspectives on their own activity and state of mind. As soon as they sense themselves becoming too much one, they switch to, are in one sense rescued by, in another sense succumb to, the other.
