I was grabbing a coffee this morning. A police car passed me as I crossed the street and I notice he made an abrupt U-turn. He pulls over and then I notice a homeless person sitting on a bench. He says to the guy. Hey Joe, you alright? It's freezing out here. Joe says "yeah"

As a youth I loved in low-income housing. Mixed races, bad reputation. Drugs, guns, some violence and if it was known you loved there, you were shunned. Officer Wayne, white police officer, would come to the neighborhood and spend time with the kids. (cont)

I think America would be well served if we redefine “serving honorably” to include not covering for officers who commit these violent acts.

Exactly. These incidents should be exposed by other officers, even when there's no video. They need a cultural shift.

Too many people don't want to admit it's a real problem that we have to deal with as a society. They go into blind defense of police mode. Yes, most police are good but this is a serious problem.

I'd take it one step further, implement more aggressive and comprehensive evaluations of officers to attempt to prevent these issues from occurring. If there are red flags, get the off the streets and to the help they need. It's one more way "to serve and protect".

If the ones who serve honorably look the other way, allow the union to keep protecting the dishonorable, and even help frustrate the course of justice, are they serving honorably after all?

Those so called other “honorable” police officers often cover for the ones who act out until they get caught. Many are soldiers trained to kill from the military. There’s also an unhealthy worshipping of police in our culture. That’s why they go unpunished.
