    Evan McMullin Retweeted Heather Long

Trump and his allies in Congress run these massive deficits to avoid the tough choices necessary for good governance. The results are a higher national debt, even more fiscal pressure, and eventually a massive tax hike on future generations. Nothing conservative about that!https://twitter.com/byHeatherLong/status/1187790989953585152 …

BREAKING: The US deficit hit $984 billion in FY2019, Treasury says, marking a nearly 50% increase under Trump. Trump promised to eliminate federal debt in 8 years. Instead, it has been growing in his tenure 2019: $984bn 2018: $779 bn 2017: $665 bn 2016: $584 bn 2015: $442 bn pic.twitter.com/suSptPfL5Q

Important to note that increasing deficit is during relatively strong economy. Even if you don’t manage a surplus, you should at least have a declining deficit during good times. This admin is not conservative in any sense of the word.

Yep. And it will also be used as a justification to attempt to cut social spending (Medicare, Social Security, etc.).

Republicans want this massive deficit to push their anti-human rights agenda. Kick millions Americans off Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, and all other federal safety net programs.

isn't that what the republicans always do when in power? They only get fiscally conservative when the dems are in power...right? That way, they can try to stop the dems from helping people and hence, becoming even more popular.

It’s not only exclusive to Trump. Historical data shows that this is what Republicans do every time they hold the WH. Show me a time in the past 30 years that Republicans actually reduced to deficit. 🤷🏽‍♀️
