My concern is the moment at which Trump has been impeached and Senate loyalists block his removal. Having overcome accountability to the DOJ and Congress, he and his foreign backers will then fear only his defeat in 2020 and greatly escalate their attacks on the election.
This is not an argument against impeachment. If Trump isn't impeached, it will have the same effect of encouraging greatly escalated foreign election interference and other assaults on the republic even sooner than if the House does take that step.
This is why it's so important for House and Senate Republicans to uphold their oaths to defend the Constitution and do their jobs despite the difficult politics, which many of them helped create. If they fail, the challenges we face will become much, much worse.
Which is why every effort must be made to appeal to intelligence, morality, and patriotism among the Senate GOP. Every day must include interviews with them and clear, irrefutable evidence. Shame can do its work.
Trump’s team knows that not only hasn’t he expanded his base, but his base has shrunk because he has lost white women. In a fair election, Trump wouldn’t even get 46% in 2020. The only way Trump can win in 2020 is by cheating. That’s exactly what Team Trump is already doing.
We need to televise there hearings. We can’t wait for Senate trial.

And if he's not impeached and no trial in the Senate? The same thing is going to happen. No matter what, it's going to be much worse. Sometime early next year he'll start claiming they are finding problems in the process. He's going to attack the legitimacy of the elections.
