Trump’s bogus anti-corruption effort marks a truly dangerous escalation in his assault on liberty. It’s a common authoritarian justification for the illegal use of state power against those who challenge them, including political rivals, the press, law enforcement and others.
In other words, he's telegraphing his intention to use state power more brazenly against those who challenge him. Doing so to solicit foreign election help is one thing, but you can imagine how much uglier it can get, especially the more vulnerable and desperate he becomes.
