Trump only wants to be able to "announce" that China/Ukraine/anybody has opened an investigation into Biden. That's all he wants - the news coverage of an investigation being opened, even if there's nothing to investigate. It's an advertising campaign.
A challenge the press faces with Trump is whether to adopt his legitimizing framing of his abuses. Today's example: "Trump says China should investigate the Bidens." He says "investigate" but Trump doesn't want real inquiries. He wants foreign attacks on his rivals. Call it that.

And since the WH refuses to hold daily briefings, the press should not participate in this morning WH lawn propaganda rants. Trump set it up that way for a reason. The press should focus on tracking down these absentee GOP Congress members: the party Trump supposedly leads.

Actually, the saddest part of this whole saga is that the POTUS can't trust his own intelligence and law enforcement agencies to conduct an investigation with integrity. Think about that . . . and I don't think this is all on Trump. The agencies need reform and accountability.
