Why isn't it a crime for public servants like Jordan, to intentionally lie to the public, in order to serve themselves. It's a terrible misuse of the office.

It should be. Congress should pass the Public Confidence Accountability Act, which holds any public office holder or news/media publication accountable for truthful disclosure of facts to the public or they subject themselves to criminal and civil liabilities.
