Though Trump does establish a clear quid pro quo with his, "I would like you to do us a favor though" line, that's not the central element of this flagrant abuse of power. The central element is Trump's use of presidential powers to secure election help from a foreign government.

I think the central element is getting US Government, AKA AG Barr, involved to work with his personal attorney and a foreign government to do dirty work for his personal gain.

The central element of the Impeachment inquiry is the executive branch refusing to turn over a whistleblower complaint to Congress as required by law. The phone call may or may not be part of it. If it is (probably it is) that’s another abuse of power by the executive branch.

I think the news from WaPo of Acting DNI McGuire threatening to resign if not allowed to testify before Congress is so sobering and indirectly confirmatory. We are in a full blown crisis and the wheels are coming off quickly.

Why is it the Republican party can't see what's right in front of them?! It's such a sad state of affairs. Our nation (democracy) is truly at a crossroads. Thank you for your continued service to our country by speaking truth to power.

They are motivated to stay in power. Our politics are so partisan, the other party is so alien (or should I say ‘so brown’) they feel justified to do whatever illegal actions and shenanigans to stay in power

Plus, this time he violated THE LAW to hide his tracks by keeping the Whistle Blower complaint from congress.
