This trend toward authoritarianism and a rejection of expertise began in the Reagan years. Trump will not be the end of this trend unless the public recognizes that the extremism of the conservative movement has been destructive and our politics move back to the center.

Yeh but what do we do exactly? We call our reps, we organize, we vote. What else can an average citizen do? All I can say is all that stuff the experts have been saying about “checks and balances” and “no one is above the law” sure seems like a bunch of fairytales at this point.

We need a dem candidate that’s not, shall we say, distasteful, to the swing voters. The disaffected Repubs who didn’t vote trump but prefer to vote libertarian or somesuch rather than a Hillary or a Bernie. I think Biden would wallop him but there are too many candidates now.

The founders didn’t envision such a pack of cowards and scoundrels would ascend to office in Congress. Out and out campaigning was uncouth. Imagine what they’d think of lobbyists?

Or corporations as citizens?
