Exactly. However GOP has publicly conflated ALL business regulations - including anti-trust - with “slippery slope to socialism” for decades. We all need to agree on the FACTS here: states should not own/control private business AND businesses need reasonable regulation.

I would argue some industries are logically at odds with capitalistic/private ownership. Healthcare, environment. Perhaps you can make up for it through a shit ton of regulation in those cases?

Great - regulation isn't socialism. fine. You might want to tell ALL other Republicans. They said the national highways were socialism. They said vaccinations were socialism. They said Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid was socialism.. You've cried a lot of wolf

Absolutely. In Mr. McMullin’s other tweet he seemed to imply regulation was socialism.

Again, none of this would be needed if capitalism was administered responsibly and a modicum of it’s fruits redistributed to public benefit- but greed drove the capitalists to capture and game government, so...let’s talk democratic socialism.

Charges of "Socialism" are being used to smother discussion of the proper role of regulation in a free market economy. I'm happy to see that in this instance at least you see the distinction between ownership by the State & regulation by the State to protect the public interest.

It's kind of weird that anyone reasonable would argue for a blanket elimination of private corporations. That such a line can be found on the D.S. of A.'s website really highlights how extreme their views are. It's true more (smart) regulation is needed in some areas areas

It's also true that some past regulation hasn't been so smart and should be cut. Sad to see an increasing number of politicians and Americans frame every issue in terms of either a) anarcho-capitalism or b) near full-fledged socialism

Needless to say, government controlled health systems throughout the world deliver universal care with better outcomes at far lower cost than US private system.

All the mergers between generic pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors over the past 15-20 years is a perfect example of how poorly the FTC has regulated competition and helped drive up healthcare costs.
