This is the kind of check on the executive branch that our founders hoped Congress would provide, commitment to the legislature’s constitutional authorities over party loyalty. The only reason Republicans are against using emergency powers is fear of a Democratic President using them in the future. Glad there is a split Congress or this would not even be considered.
