I wonder if Republicans realize that all this norm busting can come back to haunt them when they are not in power?
There is no “crisis” on the border. Trump is using a familiar authoritarian tactic of inspiring national security fear to justify abuses intended to protect himself from political and legal threats. If he declares a national emergency, it will set a truly dangerous precedent.

I don't think they care, in their arrogance it's going to blow up in their faces. Given how much criminality has been going on there, it's pretty obvious now they're not exactly long term thinkers.

Once again he is choosing to govern third-world style. Dictators create a border crisis every time they want to distract the country from a particular issue and grab more power. This was one of hugo chavez’ favorite tactics. The result is one of the bloodiest dictatorships ever.

Truly dangerous precedent doesn’t even begin. This is terrifying. Will he order military to lock down Congress? Will he order arrest of Dems if they don’t vote to fund the wall and end the shutdown?

I work in a border library. I’ve not had half the security issues that I did when working in a library in a major US city. Not once have I felt unsafe down here.
