These government shutdowns and other dysfunction cause popular distrust in our institutions and the loss of their perceived legitimacy. People then become apathetic or even hostile to our democratic systems, conditions which give rise to figures who threaten our freedom.
In a country as large and diverse as America with a democracy like ours, we cannot expect to have our way on every issue. We face serious, modern challenges that we must overcome together. Making sensible compromises to deliver solutions for the country is an act of patriotism.

Government shutdowns not only increase vulnerabilities, uncertainty, fear, anxiety, but cost the taxpayer a great deal of money. Even the threat of a shutdown is costly.
This is not a bug but a feature in the Republican plan to hold power.
