People often ask me what they can do to help protect and improve our democracy. Here are two things of critical importance that anyone can do:
1. Don’t just vote yourself, though you absolutely must do that. Also organize your friends to do the same. Make a list. Encourage them. Help them get to the polling station or remind them to vote by mail. Ask for their commitment. Then, tell them that you’re going to follow-up.
2. Invite a politically diverse group of well-intentioned people to your place or somewhere else where everyone can share their hopes and concerns for the country. Do more listening than talking. Sincerely try to understand rather than convince, even if you disagree. Bring food!
Right now the ONLY thing to do is vote out Republicans. That is the ONLY way to check Trump. All the other stuff comes after.
