Hate to beeak it to you, @Evan_McMullin. But we AREN'T better than this. We never were. Truth is, America has always been a place where people brutalized and killed minorities. Trump wouldn't have become president if the US wasn't already populated by violent hateful people.

Against all evidence. It is fine that you hold yourself to a high standard and that's how things should be. But it is not a factual assertion. It is only a way to mend a cognitive dissonance and keep a worldview together where you think of yourself as inherently superior.

Max has been reading the history books aimed at kids. This is who we are and have been since the beginning. We have moments of valor and good will, but we also have a racist mass murderer on our $20 bill, to name one example. The hatred and violence are baked in.

That’s where you’re wrong: America is no longer ‘better than’ that. This is who we are now. & it only took a few years to reach this level of destruction. Imagine in 2 or 6 more years. Stop saying “this isn’t who we are”. Start saying “we refuse to continue to be this.”

People keep saying we're better than this but we elected a man who said hateful disgusting things all through the primary. Maybe we're not better than this.
