This is the coarseness and indecency of the modern GOP. Its roots are decades old in parts of its base, but they’ve spread to others under Trump’s leadership. The divisiveness, the nastiness of the discourse, the lack of empathy for anyone different from them are all hallmarks of today’s GOP. Add to that the steady undermining of our Constitutional norms. It’s not what any of us envision for our country

As a lifelong moderate Republican I agree with you. We all have been held hostage by Trump’s 35% base.The GOP has progressively become a mean-spirited, angry party that does not even stay true to its fiscal conservatism. I am not sure what the party’s core principles are anymore!
