IMO, it’s more like a complete lack of will to check this specific “POTUS.” There certainly wasn’t any lack of resources to investigate/hold to account the actions of the Executive Branch between 2011-2016.

Congress also has bit by bit lost its understanding of its role in our tripartite system. Today, legislators tend to view themselves as either the party of a prez or the opposition to the prez, instead of the first branch. Thus, oversight and checks and balances often fail.

So the solution is to make the Congressional machine bigger. Might go for it if we agree that none of the existing members or their staff get to stay.

So, you'd prefer we fill Congress and the leg branch with thousands of smiling new faces, who know nothing about how to do oversight, pass laws, etc.? Or are you suggesting something different?
