The formerly bright stars of the party, including Paul Ryan and others, saw the basic contours of the threat early, but for years have thrown up their hands saying, “What can I do? I’m just a policy guy doing my job,” as though they were mutes and had made no oath to the nation.
Meanwhile, millions of Republicans and others who trust their leaders took queues from Trump’s Putin allegiance and GOP leaders’ silence. Now, we find ourselves in a situation in which our political will to defend ourselves from a serious national security challenge is tenuous.
The biggest disappointment has been R Congressional leaders. They set the pace for those they lead in their tolerance and justification of Trump’s reckless and dangerous policies and actions. If they could even show healthy skepticism toward Trump, it would change things. @GOP
What the GOP fails to grasp is that the rule of law protects not only their liberty but their private property rights. Russia is so corrupt there is no incentive to build a business to have a govt thug take it from you.

They are the uninformed. Most people, in both parties, are not significantly engaged with this type of issue, so they default to what they guess is the leadership (in this case Trump) position.
