BREAKING: More than 50 percent of minor leaguers have signed cards backing a union, MLBPA officials say. The Players Association has formally asked MLB for voluntary recognition, sending a letter to the commissioner’s office this morning:

MLB owns the MiLB. They will contract the minor leagues by half. MLB owners do not care about 80% of minor leaguers. They can create a system for the 20% that actually might make a MLB roster. All the “for the love of the game” guys will go get jobs.

This shows a fundamental lack of understanding of both the development structure and investment made by major league clubs in the minor league system and how labor law works.
The MLB doesn't own the MiLB either, they license affiliation. Minor league teams have owners.

I love this. Hopefully minor leaguers in the future will treated fairly and equitably. Despite Rob Manfred silly comments earlier this year.
