When it comes to broadband, America is the original shithole country: a land of copper wires wrapped in newspaper, then dipped in tar and draped over shrubs and sold to suckers with no other choice at some of the highest prices in the western world. 1/pic.twitter.com/mQtCVqo5sI

I get the feeling that arguing about fiber to the kerb is like arguing for DVDs by mail. I suspect Starlink and other satellite services will leave it in the dust.

A physical connection is always better than RF comms for speed and reliability of a sim gen, just due to physics. Terrestrial equipment is easier to maintain, and is not proprietary to a single company. Long term, FtoC is the better investment.

I'm a satellite engineer. I love my industry. We bring Internet to SOOO many places that have no other means of access. But the majority of rural US is not one of those places. Rip the earth and lay that direct bury fiber!!!

The question that isn't being answered is: how soon and how much will it cost.

Weird how the question of the benefits of universal true broadband access just don’t even enter into your thinking

and we gave the telcos millions (now billions) in escapement and right-of-way land to do exactly this. In 1996. They spent the $$$ buying up wireless frequencies and executive stock split bonuses and not a drop on infrastructure - and Congress let them get away with it.
