Unintended consequences of the EU’s hardline approach to Brexit. They’d have been better off cutting a quick deal and moving on. Delay shows their true colors and will likely lead to further fracture.

I don’t think this is anything to do with Brexit negotiations, which the average Italian couldn’t give a toss about. It’s a reaction against a poor economy and a succession of weak and inept traditional governments.
-
I think they saw Brexit and realised that the can stand up and say something. Most Italians used to put up with the odd immigrant here and there but they definitely do NOT like the huge recent influx.
-
Again though, I don’t think Brexit is this big influencing factor you all think it is. It looks like we’re going to be within the Brussels sphere of influence in the end going of May’s comments, so I don’t see why Italians would want to risk everything for that.
-
Risk everything? Lovely open borders and unprecedented youth unemployment. Why would the Italians want to risk that. The people of Europe want free trade, but they do not want open borders and political union.
-
As for “open borders” that’s not really the same thing as free movement of workers

Yet they are linked to EFDD which is known as an eurosceptic group (group presided by Farage, along with some Sweden democrats, and friends of de Villiers & Dupont-Aignan)

How can one bounce between groups which are so radically opposed ? Although this episode has the merit of showing that M5S wasn’t European enough to fit in with the Europeans.

Since the M5S seems to be the first political force in Italy, I hope I can get a real explanation at some point

Five Star Movement ambiguous on Europe at best. This is a vote against Italian corruption, inequality and mass migration from across the Mediterranean.

However, 5 stars movement + Berlusconi is not an option that has been considered.

Don't underestimate Berlusconi;)
