Spanish energy company has closed its 1160MW Litoral plant in Almeria!
The company plans to construct 1.5 GW of #renewable power (mainly #solar) to replace the plant, creating more than 2k jobs during construction & 400 in operational & maintenance roles thereafter 👏

The closure of Litoral means that this year, 14 European #coal plants have either shut down with immediate effect, or their owners have announced plans to close them by 2030.
A further 13 coal plants with retirement dates hanging over them coming into the year have now closed.

On a national level, six European countries announced a #coal phase out plan this year, while Portugal went one better, and exited coal altogether.
It leaves just five European laggards yet to even contemplate a national coal exit:
