Out of curiosity, what subjects are fine on their own merits, but you can't see yourself purchasing even one more book, fiction or non-fiction, on the subject ever again? Mine are: 1. Serial killers who prey on women 2. New York 3. World War II

And no one complains about it in the Amazon reviews.

It might be a great book for people who claim sexual harassment is no big deal because it's a guy who matter-of-factly says being touched and grabbed can throw you off your game and tells how he built a fort around his desk so the boss couldn't give him unwanted shoulder rubs.

It's Eric O'Neill, a lawyer and counter-terrorism operative at the FBI. This is from Gray Day. The guy touching him up is his surveillance target and "boss" Robert Hanssen, an agent who spent decades spying for the Russians.

"The knot of [his] tie pressed into my hair as he moved closer to the screen. My torts class spun into my mind. Assault: an imminent harmful or offensive contact. Battery: an unconsented-to touching." Can you guess?

Here's a section from the book I just read. Try to guess who is talking. "He leaned forward over the back of my chair and put his hands on my shoulders. I froze. . . I wished I hadn't left my suit jacket on the chair opposite my desk."

Things I like about this spider: 1. It’s bright yellow and green. 2. It’s nowhere near my house. Anyone know what kind it is? Image search indicates an orb weaver but those are supposed to only be in the UK.

I asked my mother if she was overall optimistic or pessimistic about the future. She said she was optimistic, using a phrase that should be on embroidered pillows and campaign buses. "I think we're going to lift ourselves out of the toilet by the rim." Let's do it, people!

I learned two things from The Polar Bear Expedition, by James Carl Nelson. 1. In 1918, the US was dumb enough to invade Russia. In the fall. 2. They used to whittle "plugging sticks" to seal off a corpse's mouth and anus. Now *that* I'd like to see on The Antiques Roadshow.

Pitch for a Modern Psychological Horror Movie: The villain confiscates the hero's phone and computer. Forces the hero into an empty room and locks the door. Sets a timer to unlock the room in eight hours. And just before they go, they whisper, "Where are a pill bug's eyes?"

That being said, See's is, as far as I know, the only company that has the good sense to put walnuts in chocolate, and if I got a pound box of their milk walnuts every month I'd be a happier and fatter woman.

Turns out See's was founded in LA, but moved their truffles and creams factory up to South SF because the weather was cooler. They now have manufacturing in both cities. Fair enough, but I still feel like a wife who finds out that her pilot husband has another family in Canada.

People of Los Angeles and San Francisco, I have a scandal for you! Growing up around SF, I always heard ads about how See's Candies was a San Francisco company. When I visited LA, I found out they used the *same* line in ads down there. See's Candies has been two-timing us!

That fact came courtesy of Ten Caesars by . Also mentioned in the book is the fact that Fausta, the wife of the Emperor Constantine, was executed by "overheated bath," which I know must have been horrible but sounds really nice.

Raise your hand if you knew that Pontius Pilate, who is famous for death sentences and hand washing, was an actual guy. An actual, historical guy who got fired after people in Samaria complained about him. They know the name of the guy who fired Pontius Pilate. It's Lucius.

A post of mine went up on Tor! Check out why the superhero genre should focus a couple of films on romance, and which couples they should use. Thanks so much to Bridget McGovern (), who edited the hell out of this.

Leaving alone the artistry of Us as a film, Jordan Peele deserves thanks for giving everyone a warm, comfortable, and non-"sexy" Halloween costume option.
