I was like six or seven years old back then. And I remember it, it's one of my first political memories (the true first one was Iran-Contra). Damn I'm old.

Also, and this is a fun thing to do: go Google pictures of Joe Biden from the 1987-88 presidential campaign and compare them to 2020, and realize that he had way less hair back then.

I was 17 working a 2nd run theater with lots of down time to read the LAT and remember hearing Uncle Joe and thinking which candidate could beat Bush Sr. This was months after the true front runner and Boom darling of 1984 D Primary, Gary Hart, was caught Monkey Business. -
And 1988 got weird in that: 1) Paul Simon were bowties! 2) I was not sold on Gephardt complaining about Japanese trade deals 3) Dukasis - He was boring but at least seems competent 4) Gore - Didn't his wife lead the effort to label Prince Records?

Seems kinda quaint in the day and age where candidates collude with the rooski’s and try to bribe the Ukrainians for election help doesn’t it?

Anyway 1988 general election was kinda of snooze although the SNL mock debate was my favorite SNL President sketch ever. It really did simplify how people thought of the candidates...Bush said a nice punditry stuff and Dukasis had charisma! And voters really did not like Quayle.
