Can't say I love the video but we participated for the US part of the research. My brilliant grad student @HonanMallory worked hard on it. Our Mexican colleagues found 33% reduction but not in our study. Turns our Fresno sourced lemongrass was not quite the same as Mexicanhttps://twitter.com/BurgerKing/status/1282978244329967617 …

cow farts & burps are no laughing matter. they release methane, contributing to climate change. that’s why we’re working to change our cows’ diet by adding lemongrass to reduce their emissions by approximately 33%. learn about our ongoing study: http://bk.com/sustainability  #CowsMenu pic.twitter.com/DnmF8gVVL0

The Mexican study (which is the basis of the original tweet) is under review in a scientific journal and ours is being written up at the moment.

@drsplace It's a shame that research was done & @BurgerKing turned it into a propaganda piece. Reducing methane is a noble cause - heck, I talk about it all the time with @BrightmarkE - but BK really dropped the ball while insulting us farmers. Gas masks? Hicks? Really?

Yeah, I cannot say I am a marketing expert. It’s goofy. The cow farts thing just will not die it seems. It’s clearly a highly engaged topic on SM at the moment, until further relevations that things are cake distracts us

I was wondering if there was some actual science behind the lemongrass concept!

Yes, lemongrass contains tannins and essential oils both of which have shown to reduce enteric methane emissions I. Several studies. However, all lemongrass are not created equal.
