    We are here in Puerto Rico, 3+ million of us! Hurricane Season starts tomorrow. While better prepared, equipped with solutions, and building resilient systems, we still need + deserve (by law!) the help, support + attention of the federal gov of the United States—OUR federal gov.

    I want people to know that Puerto Rico is part of the U.S. We are U.S. citizens. My father in law has terminal lung cancer. He can barely speak. He’s a veteran of World War II. He worked all his life. He was sent home to die. There was no power yesterday. Is this fair? Is It?

    Democrats, please do not distance yourselves from Nancy Pelosi. She is a wonderful person whose ideas & policies may be bad, but who should definitely be given a 4th chance. She is trying very hard & has every right to take down the Democrat Party if she has veered too far left!

    Here in Puerto Rico, we always knew the death toll from Hurricane Maria was far higher than 64. But it’s higher than 1,400 as well. And 3+ million American citizens here are STILL struggling, living with inadequate gov support, failing infrastructure, the threat of coming storms.

    BREAKING: Almost 11 months after Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico concedes more than 1,400 people were killed by the storm last year -- not just the 64 in the official death toll.

    Sitting in Peter Jennings’ chair as a little girl forever changed my life. There I was — in the very newsroom where my mom worked in the 1970s, as a woman in the world of news media — with the man who taught the country/globe, who showed us what was happening, who revealed truth.

    Peter Jennings died on this day in 2005. He would have turned 80 this year. We miss you, Peter.
