She took 7 different cars to escape house arrest and worse in Russia. The last one broke down in a field. The person helping her and her 11 year old daughter used the stars to guide them. At that moment she thought “what is the Big Dipper? Where are we?”

He served in an anti-mine unit and joined the Russian military in 2013. Says he did not fight in Donbas or Syria. “My function in the army was mine clearing. That’s what I did in Chechnya and in fact, I liked it”.

Says his deputy commander tortured Ukrainian POWs taken by the Russian 36th Navy Division. Says commander was “drunk nonstop”. He says no one spoke up because “just like he shot Ukrainian POWs he could have shot me or anyone else who disagreed”.
