Forbes article on Chris Pine's statement on using #dnd in schools- I feel like this is the beginning of a much larger conversation about educational RPGs. https://forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2023/04/03/chris-pine-says-kids-should-play-dungeons--dragons-in-school-and-hes-absolutely-right/?fbclid=IwAR3EPPZzyf3GdKLMUox7h_YLc6_BoRE7uE3_XuMXNEAj2QXqZkNFOvs5NeA&sh=19bdf2946dfb…

Apocalypse Keys by @temporalhiccup.
Innovative PbtA mechanics paired with narrative themes of isolation, vulnerability, and epic power. It's Hellboy through a very queer lens.

What are some tabletop rpg's that do airships and/or swashbuckling better than #DnD? Lady Blackbird springs to mind when I hear the word "airship", but I'm sure there's others!
#DnD Fun Prompt
Your character gets an airship of their very own.
What color is it? What do they name it?
(If you think you'd enjoy a 5e game with airship combat and swashbuckling action - I found a dope project you might love)
Soon to be itch-funding, probably next week all things considered; a growing hex-crawl of back hill hollers in the borderlands between Gougen County and Carcass Country; where the allure of moonshine has caught the gimlet eye of the Covett City Incorporation.
For #FrontierScum
! Reading through its moves and playbooks, I was hit with the overwhelming sense that this game wanted me to want to belong, in a way that really hit me hard in a lot of weird, personal ways.
What are examples of indie ttrpgs that do player character motivations better than #DnD?
Forged in the Dark's vices and Ironsworn's vows spring to mind, but what are some other examples?
A common mistake I see in new #DnD players is creating characters that aren’t motivated to adventure in a general sense. While specific motivations are great, they can cause issues where there’s no more good reason for them to continue once their specific motivation has is gone.
At the end of the day, hiring consultants doesn't fix the issue, since they can just take your feedback, nod, smile, and throw it right in the trash. Like they did to PanzerLion. You want diverse games, you need to buy games made by diverse creators.
I just want @Wizards_DnD to get some mixed race people to consult on things about mixed race characters.
It doesn't have to be me. There are a ton of folks in the ttrpg space.
And get more than one. Get a group.
This is a part of the reason why #DnD's complexity is a feature, not a bug. By setting the baseline of learning the game at a high level, they set the (incorrect) assumption that learning any other game would be as difficult to learn and encourage the sunk cost fallacy.
D&D doesn't want to grow the digital landscape to capture more people, that's what the movie does. D&D wants to invest existing players in proprietary software and system because it's harder for you to move over to a new system if your main digital platform only supports D&D.
I ask you, genuinely, wtf y’all are doing different that is bringing about change?
How the fuck are you supporting us minority folks?
Cause where I see it from, I see a lot of couch warriors attacking LGBTQIA/BIPOC/Disabled doing the work while doing shit all themselves
‘We can’t play other games because they are also bad’
Like … I’m sorry but you’re literally just lying. It’s actually demonstrably false that queer and marginalised creators can’t make it in this industry outside of DnD because it’s equally hostile.
Make something yourself.
So I will not have a white man dismiss the tough uphill battle we had to face to get the modicum of respect & space to be heard.
We can’t just “play something else” because this attitude is endemic to the entire TTRPG, & entertainment industry in general.
We can’t go anywhere
If this is the case, you all should really think about unionizing or doing some sort of internal organization, because I think it's pretty clear that WotC doesn't have your best interests at heart and are trying to make it so you can't make a living off of #DnD.
Because:
- thousands of regular folks, employed & freelance, still rely on the largest TTRPG business for their livelihood.
- If possible, bringing positive change to the largest business will help change the direction of the overall industry twitter.com/BeskarTom/stat…
You’re all invited to one of the best gatherings of creators I’ve seen:
Big Bad Con 2023, September 28 - October 1.
Wait till you see the POC Programming Track this year—you definitely wanna be there! 🔥🔥🔥
Lets go, & I hope to see you at
Leaving D&D, or even more accurately Wizards of the Coast & Hasbro, behind remains the single best decision we ever made for Party of One.
We don't need them. We don't want them. And we're building opportunities and spotlighting a wider, cooler world of games outside of them.
Looking at what WotC staff have said about the #DnD summit, it's pretty clear that they got what the wanted out of it. It doesn't seem like they're too concerned about third-party creator / influencer pushback or the critique that was voiced.
The sad thing is that just by inviting a bunch of racialized/LGBTQIA2S+ people and pretending to listen wotc has largely redeemed itself in the eyes of the influencer class without having actually committed to substantive change in any direction. back to business as usual.
It sounds like the D&D Creator Summit was a hard time all around, which I honestly wasn't expecting. I've been to political meetings that sound less contentious and harrowing.
That said, cautioning people away from the dreary sort of "become a cog in the system you hate" game that most cyberpunk games seem tailored for is a solid idea, from a gameplay perspective if nothing else. Playing as a Blade Runner starts to suck _very_ quickly in a ttrpg format
There's an argument for Deckard-type characters to fall into Cyberpunk as a genre, the sort of disillusioned cop. I don't think it would be very fun to play that sort of role without turning on your oppressive masters, though. https://twitter.com/dtrpgs/status/1642907586021163008…
BREAKING: President Joe Biden announces universal healthcare for all Americans and the immediate shutdown of all health insurance corporations. More to follow.
’s April 1st traditions, you might wonder: Is this just an elaborate joke?
As long-term fans know, it’s elaborate, it’s a joke, BUT it’s also a 100% real, high-quality product you can buy.
Read the full pitch and back us at:
I'd really like to be a fly on the wall of whatever Microsoft exec's office who has to explain why they purchased "Dungeons and Dragons" for their game that already features both dungeons, and, if I'm not mistaken, at least one dragon.
I don’t usually participate in a lot of the ttrpg discord because I am of the belief that everyone should do what is fun at their table and the arguments just keep being the same circling around again and again so Im just gonna drop this here
All right all right all right!
The Brigands are split, the time is upon us, and the countdown is... final.
One can't retreat. One is being... puppetted. Two are unaware of the trouble their friends are in.
So in other words: we're all good.
Live now, we'll be there soon!
