Just talked with two black men collecting signatures for the @chesaboudin recall. I demurred; told them criminal justice reform was important and they might want to rethink. Man apologized and said he was getting paid by the signature.
This is in incredibly problematic.

Really? Cause a handful of them have funded a lot of Democrats. The 'right wing Trumpers' are doing this talking point doesn't hold up.https://www.sfgate.com/bay-area-politics/article/Chesa-Boudin-recall-funding-money-San-Francisco-16366712.php …

everything about this screams bad faith manipulation, regardless of party. voters put Chesa in office for 4 years and overall his policies seem to be working. Recallers are fecklessly throwing away millions of $ and cynically wasting everyone's time on an ideological vendetta

I'm concerned to hear your explanation of the thinking here. Street conditions are troubling you during a global pandemic and recession, so you want the DA to lock more people up?

There is no data to show that street conditions are Chesa's fault. crime data in SF has been similar to or better than other cities in the past 2 years. the evidence that Chesa is plunging SF into decline is simply not there

Evidence is remarkably consistent, reform minded DA's like Chesa actually reduce violent crime and consistently make their cities safer.https://twitter.com/susieneilson/status/1378059503736778753 …

Susie NeilsonVerified account @susieneilsonReplying to @susieneilson @socallegaleagl1 @meganrcassidyThe broader point is D.A. policies don't appear to have the same effect on crime rates as bigger events like the pandemic and recession. See our chart on San Francisco vs. Sacramento - in Sac, with a more traditional D.A., assaults increased and murder rates increased more pic.twitter.com/U1yAj1Wbsg1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Here is another peer reviewed piece of science conducted in a broader method, again showing how reform is making our cities safer compared to those cities that choose even incarceration.https://twitter.com/samswey/status/1419664134191284227 …

Samuel SinyangweVerified account @samsweyI analyzed data on fatal and non-fatal police shootings in America’s largest cities. Cities that reduced arrests for low level offenses reduced police shootings - and did not see crime increase relative to other cities. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/police-arresting-fewer-people-for-minor-offenses-can-help-reduce-police-shootings/ …0 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

men will really give millions of dollars to a Trump-funded campaign rather than read something that challenges their preconceived notions
