Yesterday's Left Twitter was reminding people that Obama was pretty terrible. That's not quite right. Two things are true: 1) Obama's record was mixed and there's lots to criticize. 2) Obama was unquestionably a top 10 president and arguably a top 5 president.

The only presidents that were clearly better than Obama are FDR, Lincoln, and Washington. After that, it's debatable. I'm not really a "rank the presidents" guy, but there's plenty to criticize from the left about every single president.

And as for FDR--every single piece of New Deal legislation was called a sellout compromise by big parts of the left in the same way that everything Obama did was seen the same way. It's our memory of FDR that clouds what things were like in 1935.

No single issue alienates voters from online leftists as much as their hatred of Obama. Not only is it largely wrong, it’s insanely counterproductive.

He was a leader but a little too cautious to my mind.

Probably the same people who didn’t show up to vote in the midterms when Dems lost the majority then whine about how he didn’t pass a progressive agenda. Not exactly the “see the forest through the trees” crowd.

there's absolutely nothing useful about reframing these issues with wild speculation so that you can comfortably dismiss all critics of the american political system as being simultaneously the cause of its problems.
