You should watch the documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor. He was an amazing man. It has this in it as well. That was the first time I’d seen it.

Fred Rogers was a very special man. He talked about how he used to have a temper and how it took time and patience to learn to control it. He wasn’t born that way, he worked hard to be the Fred we now know. That’s what makes him remarkable.

That's one of the things that's so moving about him--he's presented as a natural, gentle saint, but when he talked about himself he made it clear that this was an active *choice* he made, over and over, every day. If he chose it, the rest of us can too. It isn't out of reach.
