Their response shows a lack of empathy. They were intimidated by a patient in need of proper care so she can recover and not pass away?

"We can't seem to bullshit her, damn it! She knows what we should be doing, and she knows we aren't doing it - why won't she shut up?!" That's not "intimidation," that's "retaliation." The petty sadism of the prison guard, not the empathy of a physician.
