The silence caused me lots of stress, pain, & grief (previously documented here ICYMI: https://medium.com/thelist/the-other-side-of-diversity-1bb3de2f053e …). So I stopped being silent.

Speaking up didn't fix a damn thing, but it made me feel better. I didn't feel complicit in my own unhappiness there anymore.

Ultimately, tho, IANAL, or the Oracle, or Mrs. Cleo, or any other magical negro, so I can't tell you what to do in your various situations.

Unfortunately, IME, nothing you say or do is going to make any appreciable difference in what happens there. Which sucks, I know.

You kinda want to believe you can change things, that you can make a difference, that you can make your experience better.

Notice that I'm not writing this on internal G+. IMO, the only thing that will cause any significant change in your situation is to leave.

HRBP, whatever hotline thing, talk to your manager, yada yada yada. Those are all the Official Courses of Action, that won't help at all.

...that is, unless, you've got written proof, maybe some screenshots, and 3 forms of identification to document your complaints.

Otherwise, aside from leaving, there's really nothing you can do. Well you can seek legal representation but IANAL so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ abt that.

Aside: the lawyer thing is why I'm not responding to y'all individually. Everything you write to me and I write back is discoverable.

So there's my advice, advice seeking Googlers: leave. It's a hard thing to wrap your head around. The idea will take some getting used to.

I had to wade through mental quicksand of indoctrination, self-doubt, and stress to fully get to a place where I could be ok with leaving.

Therapy helped me navigate that quicksand. Many therapists are covered by your insurance, even if not on the provider list. Check.

You CAN leave. You do not have to subject yourself to unhappiness and mistreatment. I promise you this: there is life outside of corp.
