Amazing entry into the pantheon of cinema monster-arseholes that you kinda love in Sean Baker's Red Rocket at Cannes. Simon Rex had 3 days to prepare for the part!

'The French Dispatch' is Wes Anderson dialled up to 11. Impossible to judge rationally. He's reached such peak Wes that it's almost incomprehensibly mad. I think I loved it. Jeffrey Wright is amazing Our profile (thanks to & )

The Val Kilmer doc was surprisingly touching. V open about the collapse of his career, tho doesn't really get stuck in to why he was such a nightmare at his peak.

I thought the other parent-child film - Sean Penn and daughter Dylan in 'Flag Day' - was amazingly dull and one-note. Got some respectable reviews tho. And who can't love Penn who set up the biggest Covid test site in the US and had this to say:

If you're the sort of person who saw The Souvenir with Tilda Swinton and her daughter, then you will be just as happy with the sequel that premiered here last week. It got a big ovation. Swinton Sr had an awesome dress as always.

Matt Damon's new Marseilles-set drama Stillwater by 'Spotlight' director Tom McCarthy is basically Trump America goes to France, w/some Amanda Knox stuff thrown in. Was v watchable, but on reflection a lot of it was nonsense. The Guardian ripped it apart.

A few updates from at the halfway mark Likely breakout hit: The Worst Person in the World from Norway Renate Reinsve is gonna be a star. It mixes Nora Ephron-style 80s fun/insight with some serious blub-inducing drama. Many rave reviews.

The death of professional criticism is taking longer than expected. I was looking up some stuff on graphic novelist Chris Ware and these are the top 2 audience reviews from Google.

V careful wording to from Placido Domingo re harassment allegations "We must look at the past with the eyes of the present. We should understand it in context and criticise it, severely if necessary, but it makes no sense to destroy it."

Here are some of the delightful people that JPMorgan, Barclays, HSBC and others moved money for (earning huge fees), according to the leaked information. Basically some of the most corrupt people in the world.

No bank directors have been jailed, or even faced prosecution, for the massive money laundering violations exposed in the FinCEN Files. The woman who leaked the evidence has been jailed. ()

claiming to me that 'logistical problems' now resolved & refunds offered to those affected. Unfortunately, I know this isn't true since most of our tests didn't arrive, still haven't got results from those that showed up (late), and no response to demands for refund.

Bob Dylan's birthday is, perhaps, as good a time as any to share Nick Cave's thoughts on whether we can (or even should) separate the art from the artist.

An unusually strong statement from the chair of the French National Assembly foreign-affairs committee , who is ardently pro-European. Calls the European transport Commissioner's reaction "totally scandalous" and "cowardly" and calls for her to resign or be dismissed

The modern art collection of French billionaire Francois Pinault opening in Paris is astonishing. Abduction of the Sabines in wax candle, talking mouse, photo exhibit featuring all the senators (including President Biden) who at the time voted against AIDS education.

I would love to believe this will work. It's a good idea. Sadly, few things are as adaptable to threats as bullshit.
