I "was" of the belief that outdoor mask is not necessary- BLM protests , south east Asia as an example of low risk despite large gatherings. But now hearing the devastation in India, it seems obvious that masks can be at the Frontline of this battle supported by vaccines.

One instance makes your hypothesis "obvious" despite all the counter exemples? We haven't studied the same scientific method

I commend the “Yes” writers for striking the right balance and tone.

Excellent article. It's good to see that, after a year of polarization on the use of masks, we can see writings that expose two views on the same subject without passions.

Indeed, I think we can be passionate about an issue without being upset at people with whom we disagree as long as there is some common ground. If you agree with everyone around you, it will be hard to advance knowledge and improve public health.https://twitter.com/sdbaral/status/1363934085966684163 …

Has tracing in the US been good enough to determine good outdoors data?
-
There appear to be better data available from Ireland where it seems like outdoor events may represent about 0.1% of cases. https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/only-0-1-of-cases-of-covid-19-linked-to-outdoor-transmission-1106851.html … My guess is eventually we will see a more comprehensive MMWR report/study on this, but haven't seen one yet.

From what we know about transmission and the buckshot super spread, I think the nuance lies in community viral burden. Masking even outside is important when I’m close quarters and high prevalence. It’s not so important during low prevalence. Not a hard concept ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And really what does it matter if someone else *is* wearing a mask when another does not think it is necessary?
