    With 4 independent analyses, and progression of B.1.1.7 dominance in the US, it's time to acknowledge its ~60% higher lethality: 1.61, 1.64, 1.67, 1.59 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-03426-1 … https://www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n579 … https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.03.11.21253364v1.full.pdf … https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.03.04.21252528v2 … Thanks @giorgiogilestropic.twitter.com/lb7FzUBVEp

The thing is, once a mutation like B117 developes it will have a clear evolutionary advantage and spread all over the world. The mutations with a lesser transmission rate die out quickly.

Some USA States the number of cases is increasing rapidly. Let's see if it will affect death numbers? Will vaccines protect? CDC's chairman gave warning.

Isn't it unusual for a mutation to increase lethality?

Important to note the part about it coinciding with high hospital occupancy, though. And lack of vaccinations at the time.

Yes, but against what part of the population? Just this week it was shown 72% of the people that died or were hospitalized were obese/overweight...or, as we already knew old. I'm betting that's still the case.
