@ScienceMagazine summary by@kakape is outstanding for explaining what we know about "overdispersion" (aka super spreader) events tied to settings, individuals, and timing https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/05/why-do-some-covid-19-patients-infect-many-others-whereas-most-don-t-spread-virus-all … And this ★ thread@SternLabhttps://twitter.com/SternLab/status/1264084563896254465 …Pokaż ten wątek -

Amazing how this holds true for most infectious diseases. I remember reading about the Pareto principle in malaria!

Fast test and trace. Find and isolate 20% of cases = >80% reduction in spread.

I've not the exact reference, but I remember a recent German study (maybe Bonn Uni?) finding similar numbers, too.

Thank you got sharing. Super spreaders beware. What makes an individual a super spreader? Curious because taking the super spreader out of the equation can help with our mitigation strategy.

Isn't it less about the person and their biology and more about places and events: mass gatherings, or crowded places with recirculating air (e.g. Korean call center cluster). Of course they have to feel healthy enough to go to work etc (pre- or asymptomatic)...
