So I guess Greek yogurt is off the menu in the ICU.
Why in the world would anyone use probiotics in an ICU???
To hypothetically prevent (what are considered) pathogenic bacteria from taking hold, especially after antibiotics? But I guess that's all relative!
Wld this also be a risk of fermented foods?
@sayssamplesize Looks just n=522 for the treatment group to me. Why so low compared to the non-treated group (n=21,652)? I assume that patients were not randomly assigned, as this is a post hoc analysis. Why were these 522 treated and not the others?
Makes sense.... the probiotic industry has taken a lot of things for granted!!!
Lactobacillus rhamnosus: "we identified five blood isolate mutations that did not appear in the isolates from the probiotic product, suggesting de novo evolution within the patient", one mutation adapted specifically to resist rifampin.
This is what happens when rather than using evidence based medicine, hospitals use "it must work, right?" logic instead.
