When good, tough, correct, subtle or adaptive ideas get their owners down regulated within institutions (e.g. fired, cancelled, humiliated, blackballed, etc) the engine of memetic selection will start to unravel whatever society experiments with such a program.

I would also say that execution is a critical component in good vs bad ideas. Good ideas w poor execution lead to poor outcomes. Bad ideas with good execution can lead to poor or strong outcomes.

I think in general it only requires generally shared heuristics like ‘don’t fucks with free speech’ and ‘sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me’. These were implicitly agreed upon as long as I remember up until about five years ago

Dumbed-down emotional ideas spread faster than logical ideas. Logical ideas are slowed by taking the time to process evaluate and reevaluate. Emotional responses are immediate and not slowed by thought.

I would say good or bad, fit or unfit...PERSUASIVE ideas are the ones that initially take hold and spread.

I see persuasion as a component of fitness. The ads from the 60s for cigarettes and sugar were persuasive than and ridiculous now.
