Tried my hand at some mapping more in line with my econ major: Unemployment rates! Took a look at NC during its worst month for UR during the Great Recession in March 2010. As you can see, quite a few counties were reaching a 20% UR while Orange County didn't struggle as much 1/x

A couple weeks ago some black voters in my story asked if Elizabeth Warren would keep up her message of racial equality even around white voters. Here, in Iowa, answer is yes: Stump including stats on black homeownership rates and overt discrimination

What does our 1st major bill, do? 1. Ban voter roll purging, increase voting rights 2. Expand automatic & online voter reg. + early voting 3. Give public matching funds for small-donors, reducing big $ influence 4. Mandatory independent redistricting to limit gerrymandering

This is a common response from trickle-downers. But it's wrong. A huge portion of the money flowing to the super-rich is not "earnings" in any meaningful sense. It's what we'd call "rents," unearned income extracted from others though imbalance of power or other market failure.

A quick thread on the economics of a much higher top rate for the super-rich. TL;DR version is that is on very solid ground here. There is a lot of evidence that from an economic and fiscal perspective, we'd be way better off with top rates approaching 70.

I think it would be a good on balance for election coverage to spend more time on candidates' issue positions. But one of the lessons of 2016—at least in the GOP primary—is that voters don't just fill out an issue matrix and vote for the candidate most adjacent to them on policy.

This is big and underrated. There has never -- never! -- been a House Democratic majority without a powerful bloc of southern conservatives. And now there is.
