Air pollution is by far the deadliest consequence of a global economy based on fossil fuels. This danger is borne primarily by women, low income people, the disabled, the very young and very old. It is a grave injustice. We need a zero carbon world, now.

Yes the air quality is terrible. Yes we need to get rid of fossil fuels. But this air quality emergency is mostly from crop stubble burning. Please understand that this is more complicated than “climate emergency”.

It smells like burning leaves because it largely is the combination of agricultural burning (field cleaning) with toxic smog. Solving for the field clearing activity could remove 30% of the problem, but it’s only one step toward a solution.
