Because breast feeding is not sexual. It’s what the breasts are naturally meant to be used for.

It's because breastfeeding is using breasts for their intended usage, and not for male pleasure. That's why people (read: the patriarchy) get so wigged out about it.

My grandfather opened a family restaurant in 1977, where they could get an inexpensive 4 star meal. Mothers could breast feed. Any customer complaints about the kids or new mothers were met with, you are free to leave. He did magic trick for the kids.

The whole horror over bare breasts does seem to be a uniquely American thing. Never did figure out the fuss over Janet Jackson’s exposed boob. It’s like there’s a facade of being conservative to hide the actual depravity. Hmm. Good metaphor for the current White House...

I think it's because breast feeding points out that sex is not always carefree and wonderful for women. And men would rather not think that breasts are not meant for their sexual enjoyment, but rather to feed the young. So baby has dibs on mom's time & body that supersede his.
