My fifth grader just got this question on zoom: The Rocky mountains are more ____ than the Appalachian mountains. a) Snowy b) Rugged c) Dry d) Fertile Clearly it's not 'c' or 'd'. But can we discuss the first two? How can there be only one answer?

You're right - this is probably what they want! BUT... do people regularly ski in the Appalachians? Surely the Rockies are also more snowy?

Snowfall varies by year.

Not the answer to your question, but the Appalachian Mountains are generally considered to be one of the oldest mountain ranges on the planet. (I live in N. GA, south end of the Appalachians, so got to get in some Appalachian love!!

And the New River in WV, which runs through the Appalachians, is considered to be the 2and or 3rd oldest river in the world (depending on who you ask)
