Can you fix a problem if you don't think it's a problem?

Yes. If somebody else tells you it's a problem and it's hampering the relationship?

From my experience when someone is in denial and someone points it out it only pushes them further into the behavior. I was very think headed in my youth....well and now too

Deleted my first reply. Yes I understand. I suffer from a very odd lack of pride which makes me way too amenable to 'fixing' relationships. I've learned over the years that it doesn't help!

I've always had this drive to fix people so naturally I'm trying to be a therapist but as I went deeper into my program I realized I won't be "fixing" people I will simply be giving people the tools they need to change behaviors that are unwanted or cause them problems

Agreed. And have you noticed that some people react very well to this and others very badly?

Short version yes Long version there are stages of change that people go through before they can actually change a behavior and depending on where they are on that continuum will probably determine their reaction to outside interference as well as other factors

I will defer to you because I know you have more knowledge than I do on this BUT... I find it incredible that there are a handful of people I've met who refuse to examine their own behavior - even at the risk of losing the relationship.

If a behavior defined your world view it would be difficult to even acknowledge let alone change regardless of what it may do to a relationship. People come and go but you have to live with yourself all the time. Of course other things play a part but there r 2 many to list
