Histories about how the United States was resistant and in denial about preparing for war in 1940 and 1941 make more sense now.
From what I know the US was practicing isolationism after WW1 and wanted nothing to do with the war in Europe. Not until it became real with the attack on Pearl Harbor did the US step up. Our individualistic society plus the deaths from WW1 and the great depression didn't help
